Gemini now does the task while you talk

On Wednesday, August 26, Google announced what it calls a productivity upgrade for Gemini Live. In plain terms: the voice chat is no longer just question and answer. Live now plugs into Spark, the agent the company has been testing for long jobs. You talk. Spark works in Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web, and can keep going for days or weeks with the app closed.

Google says 63 percent of Gemini users already talk to it out loud. This week’s story is that number turning into action. One example the company published: you dump a messy idea on the way; by the time you sit down, Spark has left a structured outline in Docs. Another: a weekly meal plan becomes a grocery list, pulled from recipes already sitting in your documents.

There is a morning brief. You ask “what’s my daily brief?” and Gemini stitches Gmail and Calendar into a spoken digest, without opening a screen. You can search the inbox, star, archive or delete mail by voice. And Personal Intelligence — if you connect the apps — ties an old chat to Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube. “What was the restaurant from that New York trip?” is no longer a question with no memory.

The trick, in Google’s own copy, is that you should not have to pick the tool. “What does my day look like?” becomes a brief; “grab those invites and put them on the family calendar” goes to Spark in the background. One conversation.

Two asterisks, and the company puts them in footnotes. Spark needs a Google AI Pro plan or higher. Daily Brief needs AI Plus or higher. Personal Intelligence has no such footnote: it asks you to connect the apps in settings. Without that, Live is still a conversation.
